EXPORT TO MICROSTATION V8I

Good morning,

I am new to Bentley products, but am a long time AutoCAD E user. Currently we have a client that dose all of their drawing disciplines (electrical, structural, etc.) in Microstation V8I. Meaning everything in the drawings are lines and text, with no smart functions what so ever. I have both Microstation V8I, and Promise-e V8I (select series 7) installed on my computer. I would like to utilize Promise-e and design my electrical schematics and panel layouts in this software to be more productive. I am wondering if there is a way for me to export all of my drawing files to lines and text when I have completed the project, in order to submit the drawing files to our customer? Currently what I am noticing is that I cannot edit my title block that I created in Promise-e in Microstation. I am worried that this will hold true for all of the other electrical devices that I add throughout my schematics. or will they act as cells in Microstation? Thanks for the help!

  • Hi Nathan. I'm not sure I understand all of your questions, but I'll start by suggesting the Export To DWG tool.

Promis.e programmatically protects things like title blocks and symbols beyond merely locking levels (layers). But if project page drawings are opened in another application such as MicroStation or AutoCAD, that programmatic protection will not be there. You may just need to unlock the level(s). Symbols will still be cells in MicroStation, and I assume blocks in AutoCAD.

Be aware that any changes you or the client does outside of Promis.e will not be recognized by Promis.e. In other words, the client could mark up a drawing but you would want to make the changes using Promis.e, not just replace the page drawing with the marked up drawing. And if we're talking about approvals/mark-ups, then Project Publisher is worth a look.

Also, Promis.e V8i SELECTseries 7 is not the latest version. So unless you must stay on that version to maintain compatibility with a client's version, or need to migrate legacy Promis.e data, you could consider upgrading to SELECTseries 8.

  • Matt,

First of all thanks for the quick response, unlocking the levels solved my problem. Also thanks for the heads up on the client document management side of things. I will keep that in mind for the future!
