How can I know the length of the cable?

I currently have the program Pomis.e v81, how can I know the length of the cable?

I make the schematics in promis.e v8i, is it possible to obtain a list of my connections, distance of the cable

  • Hi Gerardo. If you enter the length as Cable Text, you will see it on the Cable List and Field Wire List reports in Run Reports. These reports also show connections; the Cable List shows the Installations and Locations that the cable runs to and the Field Wire List shows the connection points on devices that the cable conductors are connected to.

The Cable Text dialog appears when you are insert a cable symbol and you can enter the length into the Length field there. You can also right-click a cable symbol and select Cable Text on the pop-up to open the Cable Text dialog. If you have cable text such as Length to enter for several cables, Cable Manager is a useful tool.

  • ok, when I do the design of the schematic, I have to enter the length of the cable  that I think is convenient, with the opption CABLE TEXT, and i ll see in the wire list.

exist any other way that the program can automatically give me the calculation of the cable distance, without me having to put it as text

the problem is that I lose a lot of time measuring the cable, and I am looking for options to have the cable ready to connect and not measure when connecting it.

  • There is an advanced feature of the software called "Shortest Distance" that can automatically compute wire lengths for you based on the information you put in the project.  You could potentially run the Shortest Distance, filter the results to find only the wires that were part of the desired cable and find the longest one, then use that on which to base your overall cable length.  However, in order to make it work you have to consistently draw your Layout pages to scale and have exact connection points on all symbols (both schematic and layout) so that the software can tell that every single connection goes from point A to point B and can make a complete path through the Wireways to get there.  There is one Advanced Training class that covers these features and how to use this portion of the program, it is not something we can teach you in the forum.

You would have to decide which was more time/effort for you to get your best ROI, measuring and typing in the cable lengths or having a dedicated library of symbols to be able to use Shortest Distance.  You could perhaps speak with your account manager about your specific application and they might be able to help you decide which method would be better for your workflows and processes.
