Dear Sirs,
We are required by one of our Customers to supply them with DGN and DWG copies of the Electrical Schematics we have designed for their Project.
The issue they are having is once the Schematics have been exported into either DWG's or DGN's the Title Block becomes non-conformant due to the attributes being exploded (or appear to be exploded). Microstation doesn't allow them to import the Project file (.prj).
It's important that our Customer gets the attributes contained within the drawing as they are converted into metadata when imported into ProjectWise.
Would you be kind enough to either advise on the issue or explain the process of exporting and importing the title block and what we need to do to achieve an output which retains the attributes please?
Kind Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave,You have mentioned that the user are being supplied with Electrical Drawings. But you also have mentioned that the Title block become non-conformant due to the attributes being exploded. Do your customer want to change the attributes of the title block or they want to just view them.? And the Attributes for the Title Block are stored in Database which is not the case in Microstation or AutoCAD. Hence when DGN are converted to DWG the current Attributes values are converted to Tags which can be viewed in AutoCAD but they don't have any intelligence to them as in case of Promis.e.

If the user need to use the Promis.e Projects and import them to ProjectWise they need to have Promis.e with ProjectWise Integration.Regards,Satish Saptasagar
Hi Satish,
Thank you for helping with this query.

The Customer just wants to be able to view them

Are attributes stored within the Title Blocks of individual DGN files/sheets?
We normally supply the Customer with DGN's by sending the files that are contained within "C:\promise Data\My Projects" and then copy the DGN's from a particular project folder (see attached photo). Is this the correct method? Do they need any other files from within the project folder?
Kind Regards, Dave
The following and attached is an excerpt from our Customers latest email:-
"unfortunately both DWG and DNG files are non-conformant. Please refer attached screenshots and attached DGN file (TW approved title block which forms part of SPD-14). The screenshots show if you click on specific items on the title block it will come up with a dialogue box which allows you to edit tags.
The title block in the DGN files you supplied previously have lost this function (I suspect due to incorrect importing of the title block or exploding). These Tags (or attributes) are used as metadata when uploading to ProjectWise."TWU-Eight2O-Model-Title Block.dgn
I hope this helps with understanding the issue.
Any advice on the above from yesterday?
Hi Dave,Thank you for sharing the Title block that you are using. We went through the same and we found the Title block attributes are Tags. But if can try using the Out Of The Box Title block for creating Promis.e Projects and if you save them as DWG / DGN they will get converted to Text attributes.
There are standard attributes for Title Block in Promis.e Title Block Designer. You can follow the below Wiki Link for details on Title Block Designer

Thank you for investigating this. Just to clarify the matter, are you saying that our Customers Title Block (TWU-Eight2O-Model-Title Block.dgn) hasn't been created properly and will not work as expected when it's imported/loaded into ProjectWise?
Hi Dave,Thank you for the update,To let you know the attributes present on the title Block shared by you looks like they are not Promis.e Title Block attributes hence it might not be getting updated in the ProjectWise accordingly as they are plain Tags and not Promis.e Title Block Attributes.Regards,Satish Saptasagar
What's the difference between tags and title block attributes?
Can they be swapped over?
Hi Dave,Attributes are a part of Promis.e functionality whereas Tags are a part of Platform/MicroStation. Any attributes in Promis.e have a database entry associated to them. That means all the attributes are saved in the database (SQL database). On the other hand Tags being a part of Platform, do not have any entries in the database. You can think of attributes as special tags with corresponding database entry. As Attributes are fundamentally defined differently than tags, I believe it may not be possible to swap one for the other.Regards,Sarvesh Kulkarni
Good Afternoon Sarvesh,
Thank you for the response. Our Customer is now asking if they will be able to speak directly with yourselves with regard to resolving this issue, whether it be a simple solution or someone needing to create a template which will suit Promis.e and work within ProjectWise. Would you be kind enough to advise a way in which they can contact Bentley directly please?
Hi Dave,We have created a Service Request #7000822526 for this issue. We will continue to investigate on this along with the user through this SR.Regards,Sarvesh
Hello Sarvesh Kulkarni Satish Saptasagar, I am a colleague of Dave Wakenell. Is it also possible to associate this service request with my account?
I am not familiar with the project wise software being used to store the drawings, is it not possible for this to be configured to read attributes from promis.e?
Is there not a way we could export the drawings into a format for projectwise?
Kind Regards
Adam
