I want to restore projects I've backed up in V8i and restore into Connect Edition.
I read this, https://communities.bentley.com/products/electrical___instrumentation/w/electrical_and_instrumentation__wiki/10123/restore-project
Right clicking on the workset does nothing. Have I misunderstood the simple instructions in the above link?
Hi Doug, You need to create Workspace and workset and then restore your project in that particular Workset. Workset is nothing but group of projects. Can you go through below Document of migration
https://communities.bentley.com/products/electrical___instrumentation/w/electrical_and_instrumentation__wiki/40164/migrating-bentley-substation-from-v8i-to-connect-edition---bentley-substation-v10-00-10-02
https://communities.bentley.com/products/electrical___instrumentation/w/electrical_and_instrumentation__wiki/40160/deployment-guide---substation-connect-edition-v10-00-10-02
Thank you both for your answers,
I was being too literal when following the instructions here https://communities.bentley.com/products/electrical___instrumentation/w/electrical_and_instrumentation__wiki/10123/restore-project
I just needed to right click on the parent folder of the project folder I wanted to restore, that's how the Restore Project option is accesed.
When restoring I got the following.
When I press OK this happens after a minute,
The contents of C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Promise CONNECT Edition\Configuration\Datasets\Promise\Config\LastError.txt are,
Void ShowError(System.Exception, System.Text.StringBuilder): Object reference not set to an instance of an object.0: at ECT.ECAD.DAL.ErrorLog.ShowError(Exception e, StringBuilder sb)1: at ECT.ECAD.DAL.ErrorLog.ShowError(Exception e, Int32 iCase, String userinfo)2: at ECT.ECAD.DAL.RestoreData.OpenTargetConnection()3: at Bentley.Electrical.API.Base.RestoreServiceBase.RestoreOnlyDatabase(String shortProductName, String sTargetName, String sToPath, String prjdbfile, Int32& newid)
What is this error and how do I resolve it?
Thanks
Doug
EDIT:
This prompt is now popping up and asking for the password to our V8i database, the project I'm trying to restore above is from that V8i database.
Promis•e CONNECT Edition Update 10
Hello Doug,
Looking into work flow , I assume that your SQL database is not properly connect to Promise Software. Can you try Windows Authentication, right now you are selecting SQL Authentication .Please update me if this works for you.

Avanti Khandalkar
Hi Avanti,
We are using MS SQL 2017 as our database server.
This image is from when I upgraded a copy of our database to be compatible with Promise CE,
This is the database we're using now, I have double checked the credentials are correct.
Tried to "Restore Project" and it has worked succesfully on a couple of projects, including the project that was causing the errors last week.
Nothing has changed in the setup, I'd left it connected to the same database without having to resupply credentials like last week.
Hi Dough,As seen in the above screen shot It shows only Test Successful may be you have selected the option to Test Connection only after test connection you need to select the option Execute Script as well which will create / Update the Database.
You can follow the steps provided in the below Wiki Link for steps for creating and updating the Project Database
Also in your restore project dialog there seems to be no project database selected for the project to be restored in, hence you need to select the database in which you need to restore the Project.
Hope this helps!Regards,Satish Saptasagar
