3D symbol problem

Hi everybody!

I am using Bentley Substation V8i and have a problem with 3D symbols.

I created a symbol, and inserted it into the project, but after that, when I select it, it seem as the symbol boundaries are much wider than the symbol itself. It looks like there are some trash (lines and something like that) in the symbol. See the picture below.

When I export the symbol into the IFC format, I can see that there are a lot of lines that I can't see both in my project and during the symbol creation. See the picture below.

I checked during the creation whether there are some elements besides the symbol, but no, there was nothing. I tried double scroll button (in this case it would focus me on the element only), select all and delete everything except the element but nothing worked.

Does anybody know what could possibly be the problem?

  • Hi Jovan,

Can you select one element line or something else that is getting placed along with the symbol and right click and share with us the screenshot of its Properties ?

Have you tied to do a fit view when creating a symbol to check if it's not having extra details apart from the symbol? the fit screen button is as seen in below image

Is the issue faced when a new symbol is created as well?

  • Hi Satish.

I couldn't select the lines that were placed along with the symbol, I couldn't see them also. But I managed to get rid of the. I started symbol creation from scratch and copied the old symbol graphics into the new symbol. This is how I removed lines, shared cells etc.

My symbol has much more natual boundaries (handles). However, these handles still dont fit the element completely. You can see picture below.

Yes I tried the fit view button during the creation process, but it fits my view only on the element.

I have just tried creating another symbol from scratch, I haven't copied anything in it, just placed a couple of solids and this is what I have got.

There are no shared cells, hidden lines or some other trash, but handles are not fitted to the element.

  • Hi Jovan,

If you face a similar issue with any other symbol try to do compress Options and Compress on the symbol DGN by following the steps in below Wiki Link. And check if it fixes the issue with the symbol. The Wiki Link is for MicroStation software which is power platform for Substation.
