Hello All,
I am currently modifying an existing schematic for a cell in a switchgear for use in another cell in the same switchgear. The design and equipment are the same, just located in different cells. When I change the "Device Tag" field to the new device ID for the new relays I keep getting the following error:
I have read the help file regrading this error, but I still do not understand the error message or how the "SubID" affects the Device ID.

Hello Anthony, You are getting the above above dialog because there is already Symbol with Same Device Id and it asking if you would like to insert a new Symbol With Same Id as a Duplicate Symbol. The Sub Id is used there are Multiple Duplicate Symbols and when placing Child Symbol you can Link it to the correct symbol. You will find more details on the below link. Thank you for helping me out, I am new to inside work. I have spent most of my career in substations as an electrical technician. Bentley OUS is my first experience using software to design schematics in a utility setting.
I have a follow-on question regarding the screenshot below, I am not changing or adding to the design. I am just changing wire numbers, device ID's, and wire links to reflect the new location of the equipment:
1) Is there a best practice or "correct order" that should be followed when assigning or changing device ID's? I am currently referencing the P&C fundamentals practice workbook.
The "Engineering Design Consideration" only appears when I change children on the primary relays "parent connection chart" (located middle bottom), the backup relays parent connection (located left bottom) chart seems to change device IDs much easier.
Hello Anthony, It depends on your requirement you are currently facing this issue since there are already symbols with same device id that you are trying to use. Also you try to use Device Id Display Format by modifying as per your requirements so that they can be assigned automatically.

As I had mentioned earlier there might be multiple duplicate Parent Symbols with same Device Id for the id that you are applying to the child symbol, this Dialog gives you an options to select the Correct Symbol according to the Family.
