promis.e catalog conversion (MS to ACAD)

I dont know if anyone else has noticed this yet, and I'm not even sure when this became an issue (In what release), but have you tried to export a promis.e Microstation Catalog for ACAD, then restore it into promis.e ACAD? I have encountered a very interesting show stopper. Everything looks fine until I try to either use a symbol, where you encounter a DB error and the symbol doesnt insert, or you try to modify a symbol in the symbol creation wizard. Most of the symbols in the creation wizard preview with abnormally large connection points, and when the symbol opens, A DB error is thrown, and the symbol contains no Connection point text. Every step you try to go to in the wizard then re-opens the symbol in CAD. The connection points exist in the Connection point step, but there is nothing in the connection point editor. I am sure there is more to this but I wont go on any more. This is a real issue for us as we deliver catalogs to clients in ACAD format, but create them in MS. I wanted to know if anyone else could test it out and see if they have the same issue or not. Also if there are already ST's in the system for this exact issue.

  • yep, made a ticket this morning.

On my catalogues, n - 1 of n connection points are scalled to 25.4 times (that's how many millimeters there are in an inch coincidently).

the procedure has been followed correctly to my knowlege, as follows:

    1. export from microstation and check the box to convert to AutoCAD

    2. use the migration wizard in the autocad version to open this catalog and finish the conversion.

    3. import the catalog into the acad version using the catalog manager.

it seems from my poking around that the catalogue is still in a pretty good state after leaving microstation, its only once the autocad version gets its hands on it that things start going wrong.

I can use the symbols in a project fine (except they have huge connection points), but I cannot open the symbols in the symbol creation wizard, I get the exact same issue as you do Dan.

I have tried a lot of different things to try and resolve this, with no luck. I am about to try an older version of promis-e for autocad and see if that helps at all.

Big problem for us. We need to start a project next week and are hoping to not have to recreate our entire catalogue because of this issue.
