Wiring Propteries - Branch vs. Potential - Why won't the properties stay different :(

Hi,

I'm on to running wiring reports and assigning properties to my wires and have hit an impass.

I have three wires connected in series thought two termial blocks with devices on both ends: D-W-T-W-T-W-D

I am trying to assign 3 different wire types to the three different wire segments (branches I think promis-e calls them)

I am manually assigning them.

If I apply properties by potential all three wire segments get the same wire Tag and properties

If I apply properties by branch and give each segment a differnt branch number I still get all 3 segments changing Tag ID and Wire Properties.

I'm OK with the wire TAG all being the same since this this how we label then but i need to use differnt wires for each segment (e.g 14 guage and 10 gauge) 

I read the manual with no avail -

Is there a different guide that explains this? Does it not work and I am denting my head :)

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • By nature, connections on schematics are often ambiguous, and this could be affecting your situation as well. It could be that the software considers TB1 to be wired to the fuse, and then the fuse wired to whatever is below line 118.  If that is true, then the horizontal and vertical lines where the 2L2/8 tags are seen actually represent the same physical wire (the horizontal line actually represents two wires), and it is impossible to give two different gauge designations to the same piece of wire.

    One option is to avoid ambiguity by using diagonal wire connectors instead of node connectors.  In addition to making wire routing clearer to the person reading the prints, diagonal wire connectors also tell the software how the wires should be routed.  It looks like you are using promis.e for AutoCAD.  In that case, there should be a Wire Connector Type button that has a simple large black dot on it on your promis-e|Design menu/ribbon.  Click it once to change to diagonal wire connector mode (note that the icon does not change to reflect the active mode in the AutoCAD version).  Another way to change wire connection modes is on Options > Project Options > Wire Options/Settings > Connection Preferences.  To change existing nodes to diagonal wire connectors, delete and redraw a connected wire segment after enabling the diagonal connection mode.

    Another option is to used the Forced Routing Manager to tell the software how the wires should be routed.  Note that once wires are "forced" you will need to use Forced Routing Manager if you want to change their properties.

    Once the wires are routed as you intended using either of the above techniques, you can then display the wire tags where they make sense, perhaps wherever a line represents a single wire.

    Note for SELECTseries 7 users:  Forced Routing Manager has been deprecated, use Wiring Manager.  Also in SS7, it is possible to show wire labels for each wire a given line segment represents, so it would be possible to show 2L2/8 and 2L2/12 on a line segment that represents two branches.
