Imported dwg drawing unable to be create into cells

I wanted to create a cells using the graphic taken from a dwg drawing reference in to promis.e. This error came out. What does this mean? Please assist.

  • The easiest method would be start within the CAD and use 'File>Open' to open the DWG file which contains the symbol/blocks/cells.

Then go to the 'Manage>Component Management>Create Symbol' and select Step 1 > Option 2 'New symbol (Import Symbol Graphics)'.

On step 2 you can then click on 'Select Objects' and select what you want to be in the symbol (1 at a time). Once selected and right-clicked you should see that 1 or more objects have been selected.

You can then go through step 3 to define the symbol type and then jump to step 5 for the device ID where you should be placed into the work area and see the selected object.

Make sure to adjust the symbol so it sits nicely on a standard grid. You may need to drop the symbol if you want to adjust individual aspects (use keyboard shortcut 6 + 1) to drop the items.

Add device tag, connection points, attribute text and an insertion point before saving.

  • I think i have to really sit through the symbol creation course. Does creating cells is the same as creating symbols?

  • Bernard,

creating cells is a completely different process but the end result is similar. The difference is that promis-e manages the additional attribute and position values for device ID, insertion points, and text.

You must work through the symbol creation wizard and understand and complete the main steps to ensure symbols are created correctly. The help file is quite informative so its worth reading through if you're not sure.

  • Okay. I have create the symbols for panel layout so we don't need to use cells. But may i ask symbols can be place in what page mode besides schematics mode and single line diagram? I was unable to place symbol at panel layout mode.

  • Bernard,

Panel Layout type symbols can of course be placed on a panel layout page. Surprisingly terminal and plug symbols can also (not that I would recommend this). Standard ('All Others' in symbol creation) cannot be placed on a panel layout type page however.
