    Background

    Identifiers for SQL Server objects, including table names, must conform to certain rules.

    Rules

    The identifier string can consist of:

    • Letters
    • Numbers
    • The "at" sign (@)
    • The dollar sign ($)
    • The number sign (#)
    • The underscore (_)

    The first character cannot be a number or dollar sign ($).

    The identifier must not be a Transact-SQL reserved word.

    The identifier must not contain spaces or special characters.
