Devices in a field that is surrounded by another field adopt theinstallation and location of the outer field.TR Number:Version:Product: promis.e 2007Area: Problem 34230, field, symbol, device, installation, location,PROBLEMSOLVINGSee Also:
This is intentional behavior that can be overcome with a differentworkflow process..If a field is created and then that field is surrounded by anotherfield, the devices in the inner field will adopt the installation andlocation of the outer field if "Rename existing symbols to theInst./Loc. of the field" is enabled when the outer field is drawn.Inner fields do not "protect" devices from the renaming processinitiated by the creation of an outer field. This is to avoid performance issues caused by the potential for many layers of nested fields and large amounts of affected devices. Previousversions of promis.e worked this way as well..Instead of creating the outer field(s) last, below are some alternateideas:.- Create the outer field first and then the inner field..- Choose not to "rename existing symbols" when drawing the outer fieldlast. If "Adjust device ID when symbol(s) is moved" is enabled inPromis-e Options>Display Formats, move the symbols that should have theinstallation and location of the outer field, and then move them back..- Choose "rename existing symbols" when drawing the outer field last. Then move the inner field and then move it back to rename the devices inthe inner field with the installation and location of the inner field.
