Rename a terminal strip or plug

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation
      Version(s): through 08.11.13.140
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Component Management
      Subarea: Terminal_Pin_Plug Manager

    Background

Changing the device ID of a terminal block on the Device Properties dialog may not change the device ID of all the other terminal blocks in the strip.  Or it only changes the device ID of the other terminals if they are in line vertically with the terminal being renamed.  In earlier versions of the software, changing the device ID in this many would change the terminal number to the next available number in the newly assigned strip. In SELECTseries 8 Refresh, the option to update all the terminals in the strip is presented when the device ID of one symbol is changed.

This article describes how to change the device ID of all the terminal blocks in a strip or all the pins in a plug.

    Steps to Accomplish

    Option 1 - Preferred

    1. Open Terminal/Pin-Plug Manager.

    2. Right-click the name of the strip or plug and select "Rename".

    3. Rename the Installation, Location, or Device tag as desired.

    Option 2

    1. Open Data Manager.

    2. Select the Device ID tab.  The results can be filtered by clicking the filter symbol in the upper right of any column header.

    3. Change the Installation, Location, or Device tag values as desired.  If multiple rows are selected, a change to one row will propagate to the other selected rows.  The Find & Replace pane can also be used.

Option 3 (SELECTseries 8 Refresh only)

    1. Right-click a schematic symbol for a terminal in the terminal strip to be renamed, select Device ID.
    2. Change the Installation, Location, or Device tag values as desired, click OK.
    3. Choose the desired option from the dialog that appears:
      - Update all terminals found vertically in line with this terminal
      - Update all terminals in project
      - Do not update any other terminals
