Switch sides of a cable cross reference symbol

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation

How to make devices appear on the opposite side of a cable cross reference symbol?

    Background

When a cable cross reference symbol is created, all the "From" connection points are typically inserted on one side of the symbol and all the "To" connection points are inserted on the opposite side.

When the cable cross reference symbol is used in a project, the "From" device and the "To" device for a given cable or wire connection is determined by several factors, including how the schematic is drawn.  This can sometimes cause the device ID of a target device to be displayed on the "wrong" side of the cable cross reference symbol.

This article describes how to make target devices switch sides on a cable cross reference symbol.  This technique only affects what is displayed at the cable cross reference symbol. It does not affect other areas of the software such as the Field Wire List.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Right-click one of the connection point texts on the cable cross reference symbol and select Connection Point.

    2. On the resulting Modify Connection Point Text" dialog, find and select the row for one of the devices to be switched. This row would list the name of the device in the Visible Text column. Make note of the value in the Hidden Text column for this row.

    3. Find the row for corresponding device that is on the other end of the same conductor. This row would list the name of the device in the Visible Text column and have the same numerical value in the Hidden Text column as the row selected in step 2 (for example, T5 and F5 are a match).

    4. Hold the CTRL key and click the corresponding row so two rows are now selected.

    5. Click the Switch button that is visible when two rows are selected.

    6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 as desired.

    7. Click OK.
