Nothing happens when using Automatic Wire Numbering

 Product(s):Promis.e, Bentley Substation
 Version(s):through 08.11.12.140
 Environment:N/A
 Area:Wire Numbering
 Subarea:Automatic Wire Numbering

Problem Description

When trying to use [[Automatic Wire Number]], nothing happens or nothing changes after clicking OK.

Explanation

The Automatic Wire Number tool doesn't overwrite the existing wire labels unless told to do so. Therefore when automatic wire numbering is used on the wires already having labels it doesn't change those labels, giving an impression that nothing happened or changed after running the automatic wire numbering command.

Automatic Wire Number does not assign numbers to wires without a connection to at least one device.

There may be filters applied preventing wire numbers from being assigned.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Ensure wires to be numbered are connected to connection points on symbols. Source and/or target devices should be listed on [[Wiring Manager]] ([[Forced Routing Manager]] in older versions). The "Wire Without Connection" check in [[Engineering Design Considerations]] may also help find unconnected wires.
  2. In the Automatic Wire Number dialog / Wire Auto Label dialog, set the check boxes to Overwrite labels, if applicable. Set the Mode and Use settings to match the wires to be numbered.
