Steps to Resolve

Reboot the workstation

First, restart the workstation being used to restore the backup then try restoring the backup again.

Check the SQL password

The error message can occur when using SQL Server Authentication and the password on the [[Setup]] dialog is incorrect. Normally a "login failed" message is returned when leaving Setup if the password is incorrect. However, leading or trailing spaces added to the Password field, often inadvertently, are trimmed and ignored by the software, which then functions normally except for when attempting to create a project backup. In this situation project backups can be restored, but backups cannot be created.

  1. Verify the correct password is specified on [[Setup]] > Project Database.

Check ODBC

The message may indicate a problem outside of the software with the Windows ODBC connection to SQL Server.

The ODBC connection can be tested with the following process:

  1. For 32-bit Promis.e/Substation on a 64-bit operating system, run \Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
For 32-bit Promis.e/Substation on a 32-bit system or for 64-bit Promis.e, run Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. Select the "SQL Server" driver, click Finish.
  4. Give the data source a name and specify the SQL server Promis.e/Bentley Substation is using (as seen in the Project Database area of the [[Setup]] dialog) for the Server field. Click Next.
  5. Choose "Windows NT authentication" or "SQL Server authentication" to match what is used on [[Setup]], click Next.
  6. After clicking Finish, click the Test Data Source button.. If there is no problem with the connection, it will return "TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!"

If the test does not complete successfully or cannot be completed, contact your IT department.
