Explanation

Promis.e and Bentley Substation do not have a 15 minute trial mode. The above message can occur when the software is prevented from starting normally and using its license.

How to Avoid

Do not alter a .ucf file try to make the software start as a form of plain MicroStation

Do not specify the following in a .ucf file:

MS_INITAPPS =
MS_DGNAPPS =

The untitled.ucf file supplied with the software does not include the above lines. The .ucf files would be stored in the Workspace\Users folder, which is typically

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\promise V8i\WorkSpace\Users\

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Substation V8i\WorkSpace\Users

Reinstall

In one case, no .ucf file was modified as described above. In that case performing a [[Clean Installation]] resolved the issue.
