Remove Unused Installation or Location Names

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation
      Version(s): 08.11.12 - 08.11.13.140
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Project Management
      Subarea: BOM Explorer

There was an Installation or Location name used in the project at one time, but no devices, pages, or fields use this Installation or Location name any longer. However, the unused name is still showing up in the pull down menus when I assign Device IDs and in the BOM Explorer. How can I remove them so they no longer appear in the project at all?

    Option 1

The Remove Unplaced Devices button was added to the BOM Explorer tab of Project Manager in SELECTseries 7 (08.11.12.xx).  It’s main purpose is to remove devices that have no associated symbols placed in the project. These devices may have been added using BOM Explorer, imported into the project, existed as symbols that have since been deleted from the page, or left behind by some other workflow. It will also remove all unused Installation and Location names from the project.  If you want to remove an Installation name but do not want to remove any as yet unplaced devices from the project, use Option 2.

To select the Remove Unplaced Devices tool

    1. Select the BOM Explorer tab of the Project Manager.  Tabs are along the bottom of Project Manager.

    2. The Remove Unplaced Devices button is near the top of the BOM Tree pane.

    Option 2

If you only want to remove the individual Installation or Location names and not all of them and all unplaced devices, then

    1. Open the BOM Explorer as above, but instead if using the Remove Unplaced Devices button, highlight the desired Installation or Location name and right click.
    2. Select Remove from the Right click menu.
    3. If you get a message saying that the name cannot be removed it is because that name is used somewhere in the project on a device, field, or page name and can't be removed as long as any object in the project is using that name.
