Problem Description

When I start the software, the File Open dialog appears with no other tool boxes or menus displayed. Project Manager or the Welcome dialog used to appear other menus were available.

Explanation

This happens when the shortcut to start the application does not specify that the Ecad.dgn file should be opened automatically. This situation can occur when the user makes the shortcut directly to the executable file (.exe).

Steps to Resolve

1. Right-click the shortcut used to start the application and select Properties.
2. Ensure the Target field includes the path to the Ecad.dgn file. The Target field should look like:
   

   "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\promise V8i\promise\promise.exe" "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\promis-e V8i(M)\Config\Ecad.dgn"

   
   or, for Bentley Substation:
   

   "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Substation V8i\Substation\Substation.exe" "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Substation V8i\Config\Ecad.dgn"

3. Click OK.
