How can I display hidden geometry as dashed lines on 3D designs? The Hidden Line display style hides the geometry completely.

Steps to Accomplish

Open the file to contain the custom display style

If the display style does not need to be used in other files, open the project page/DGN file in which the display style is to be used.

If the display style is to be used in subsequently created project pages/DGN files and not many existing files, open the seed file. Refer to the [[Make custom styles available for all pages, symbols]] article.

If the display style is to be used in many existing and subsequently project pages/DGN files, open a custom DGNLIB file. Refer to the [[Customizing the Interface]] article for information about creating a custom DGNLIB file.

Create a custom display style

  1. From the main pull-down menus, select Settings > Display Styles.
  2. Select the Hidden Line style in the list.

  3. Click the icon for Copy at the top of the dialog.

  4. Click into the new "Copy of Hidden Line" item and rename it to "Hidden Line Dashed".

  5. With the "Hidden Line Dashed" style selected in the list, set the Hidden Edges check box.

  6. Click the arrow (A) on the selection box next to Hidden Edges and set the Style check box (B), then select (C) the desired line style, such as style 1.

  7. Set the Usable for Clip Volume check box if the display style should be available for use when clip volumes are applied. When this check box is set, the display style will be available in the Clip Volume Settings area on View Attributes.
  8. Close the Display Styles dialog.

  9. Select File > Save.

Apply the display style to the view

  1. If the display style was added to a seed file, create a new project page/DGN file using that seed file. If the display style was added to a DGNLIB file, open or create a project page.
  2. Select the View Attributes tool on the view's toolbox. Select Workspace > Preferences > View Options > Show View ToolBox if the view's toolbox is not displayed.

  3.  Select the new display style.
