    Insert Field

    Background

    The Insert Field tool is used to draw a field box around symbols on a schematic page. Installation and Location values assigned to the field box can be propagated to the devices that have symbols within the field box by setting the Rename Inst./Loc. Of Device ID's to match field check box on the Field Parameters dialog. The Field Parameters dialog appears after drawing the field box and selecting the data point (clicking) for the text position.

    To start the Insert Field tool

    * is used to denote a menu selection that is not necessary in some versions or platforms.

    For Bentley Substation CONNECT Edition

    • Select 2D Design ribbon tab > Components group > Insert Field
    • Function key shortcut: F2 > D > OT
      • If the 2D Design ribbon tab is already the active tab: F3 > OT
    • Space bar shortcut: SPACE > 6 (Components group) > Insert Field

    • From the Tasks or ribbon area, select Design > *Components  > Insert Field
    • Key-in: ECAD EXEC FIELD
    • Key-in for promis.e for AutoCAD: ECAD_EXEC_FIELD

    • From the Tasks or ribbon area, select Schematic Design > *Insert Components > Insert Field
    • Key-in: ECAD EXEC FIELD
