Seed files not correct after restoring project in Promis.e CONNECT

      Product(s): Promise CONNECT
      Version(s): 10.00.XX.XX to 10.05.XX.XX
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Installation_Configuration
      Subarea: N/A

    Background

The seeds files are used for creating Pages in Promis.e CONNECT. Whenever a new Project Page is created, Promis.e will use the seed file specified in the Project Options for creating the new Project Page.

    Error / Issue Faced

The users sometimes find that the Seed files associated with the Project are not the same as they were in V8i when a Project is Migrated or Restored in Promis.e CONNECT from V8i. This issue is due to the reason that the current Promise CONNECT workspace might not have the same seed files as that in case of Promis.e V8i.

By default when a Project is restored in Promis.e CONNECT and the seed files from Promis.e V8i dataset are not present in Promis.e CONNECT WorkSpace by default the seed files are defined as METRIC_MM_3D in the Project Options.

    Steps to Resolve the issue

The issue can be resolved by copying the V8i Seed files from Promis.e V8i Dataset to Promis.e CONNECT Workspace. This applies to both the case if the user uses Custom Seed files or Delivered Seed files in Promis.e V8i.

Below are the Steps to resolve the issue
    1. Locating the V8i Seed files
    2. Location to Copy the Promis.e V8i Seed files in Promis.e CONNECT WorkSpace.
    3. For Projects already Restored.

    1. Locating the V8i Seed files

Usually the Seed files for Promis.e V8i can be found in the below location with default configuration.
    location: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Promise V8i\Promise Data\Templates\Page

Note: As seen in above image the folder contains ANSI as well as IEC seed files. While copying the same to Promis.e CONNECT WorkSpace make sure that they are copied to respective WorkSpace according to the configuration as seen in the next section.

If the Promis.e Dataset is located on Network the details for the same can be found in the Step configuration in Project Manager >> Setup >> Systems Paths >> Manage Individual Paths.

    2. Location to Copy the Promis.e V8i Seed files in Promis.e CONNECT WorkSpace.

Note: The below paths are for local user using Promis.e locally with for OOTB WorkSpace. But as it is recommended that user create their own custom WorkSpace for Promis.e, Hence the user needs to browse to the location accordingly. Details for the same can be found further below.

Usually the Seed files for Promis.e CONNECT can be found in the below location for OOTB WorkSpace Promis.e ANSI-IEEE or Promis.e IEC WorkSpace. The Promis.e V8i Seeds files can be copied to below locations.

    Path for Promise ANSI-IEEE Example: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Promise CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Promise ANSI-IEEE Example\Standards\Promise\Templates\Page

Path for Promise IEC Example: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Promise CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Promise IEC Example\Standards\Promise\Templates\Page.

If the user is using Promis.e Custom WorkSpace which are located on Network / ProjectWise the details for the same can be found in Project Manager >> Configuration Variables after selecting the required WorkSpace from drop down list.

    3. For Already Restore Projects

Note: This step is for Projects that are restored in Promis.e CONNECT before copying the Seed files from Promis.e V8i to Promis.e CONNECT. The Projects that will be newly restored will not have the issue.

Go to Project Options after opening any Page of the Project in Promis.e CONNECT from Project Manager >> Options >> Standards >> Grid/Snap Settings and next select the Seed files for the modes according to requirement and save the setting by selecting Ok.
