How to Migrate Substation V8i Projects to OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Using Configuration Assignment Utility

      Product(s):  OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition
      Version(s):  10.00.XX.XX to 10.09.XX.XX
      Environment:  NA
Area:  Migration - OpenUtilites Substation CONNECT
      Subarea:  NA

    Background:

This article discusses how to migrate your V8i projects to the OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition using Configuration Assignment Utility.

In Substation V8i, the application relied on its own setup configuration which was stored in the setup.xml file to locate the dataset, connect to the project database, and specify various default settings. In OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition, however, this setup.xml is replaced by the native Power Platform configuration system like the WorkSpace and WorkSet configuration. When the Substation V8i projects are migrated to CONNECT it will assign WorkSpace & WorkSet to the Projects during the process. After the Projects have been assigned the WorkSpace and WorkSet can be opened in OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT.

Note: Power Platform is the MicroStation core application that underlies the OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition product.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Configure Substation SS8 V8i Database with OU Substation CE, you can follow the steps in below Wiki Link to configure and upgrade the Database.
Note: Once the database is upgraded it cannot be reverted to an earlier version. Hence it is better to make a backup of the database before upgrading. Also if other users are using the same database for Substation while running an older version, then they will not be able to access the Projects.

    2. Next in Substation Project Manager select Configuration Assignment Utility under Admin Tools.

    3. Select the Server Name used in Substation V8i as used in step 1, then specify the Database Name. Select the Authentication method used and then specify password if using SQL Server Authentication and select Login.

    4. Now select the Projects on the Right Side that need to be migrated. Specify the WorkSpace and WorkSet for the Projects to be migrated to and select Apply.
