Wiring diagram or cable cross reference not populating in report

    Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation
    Version(s): Connect
    Environment: N\A
    Area: Reports_Output Features
    Subarea: Wiring Diagram

    Problem Description

After inserting a wiring diagram symbol, the connection information such as target device IDs and wire numbers is not populating.

    Steps to Resolve

The term "the device" in this article refers to the device that is represented by the wiring diagram symbol having the problem. The term "target device" refers to another device connected to "the device".  Additionally, "the device" may be a cable and the wiring diagram symbol may be a cable cross reference symbol.

Try each suggestion below until the problem is resolved.

    • Run Update Wiring Diagram. Unless "Dynamically update connections" is enabled on the appropriate tabs in Options > Project Options > Wiring Diagram Settings, wiring diagrams must be manually updated.
    • Delete and re-insert the wiring diagram symbol.
    • Ensure the wiring diagram symbol is correctly linked to the device by using Insert Symbol By Device ID to insert the wiring diagram symbol.
    • Check to make sure the schematic symbols for the device are actually connected to the intended target devices. The "Wire without connection" and "Symbol without connection" checks in Engineering Design Considerations are useful for finding problems.
    • When the device is a terminal block, check to make sure the target devices are connected to I (Left) and E (Right) connection points of the terminal block, not the J (jumper) connection points. The Invalid terminal connections check in Engineering Design Considerations is useful for finding such cases.
    • Check to make sure the pages containing the schematic symbols for the device are not offline.
    • Try inserting the wiring diagram on a different page, or in a different project, and try inserting other wiring diagram symbols on the problem page to try to isolate the problem to the symbol, page, or project.
    • If the connection points on the wiring diagram symbol were manually added or are suspect, import them into the symbol instead.
      1. Open the symbol in Create Symbol.
      2. Set the Number of Connection Points to 0 (zero) on the "Place Connection Points" step to remove the existing connection points.
      3. Go back to the "Import Connection Points" step and import them from the device family or schematic symbol if no family is used with the device.
      4. After importing the connection points, do not make changes in the Visible Text and Hidden Text columns on the "Place Connection Points" step. Insert the connection points onto the symbol drawing.
      5. Finish symbol creation, saving the symbol.
      6. Use Update Symbol to update the project with the new symbol definition if not automatically prompted.

    • Run Rebuild Project Database or run Update Page on the corresponding schematic pages.
