How do I assign different wire properties such as gauge to different branches of the same potential?
The term "branches" used by this document refers to the different physical pieces of wire that belong to a given potential. Branches may be separated by terminal blocks as shown in the figure below, or they may be connected at a common point, such as the connection point of a device.
Refer to the figure below when following these procedures.
Right-click a branch and select Wiring Manager.
Set the Property Assignment setting to "By Branch".
Assign desired wire properties to the various branches of the potential. Note: If no wire properties are changed, Property Assignment will revert to "By Potential" when the dialog is closed.
Starting with promis.e and Bentley Substation V8i SELECTseries 7, wire properties can be assigned without assigning wire numbers.
The Wiring Manager will display all the branches of the selected potential. Clear the "Show all connections on potential" check box to show only the branch(es) represented by the logical line segment that was right-clicked. Logical lines can be ambiguous and represent more than one branch, therefore more than one branch may remain displayed even when "Show all connections on potential" is cleared. In that case, use the target information to further identify the branches.
Assign a wire number to the potential either automatically or manually. For this example, it is assumed the wire number will already be displayed at Branch A and no others.
Right-click on a branch that is to have different properties, Branch B for example, and select Assign/Edit Wire Number.
In the resulting dialog, set Apply properties by to "Branch" and change the wire properties as desired. Note: If no wire properties are changed, "Apply properties by" will revert to Potential when the dialog is closed. Click OK. The wire number will be automatically duplicated at the edited branch.
Repeat for remaining branches as necessary.
Note: The Apply properties by setting will not be displayed in the Assign Wire Number or Edit Wire Number dialogs for the branch that initially displays the wire number of the potential. It will be displayed in the dialog for other branches.
When a potential travels across wire links it will be necessary to manually Duplicate the wire number first if Apply properties by does not appear in the Edit Wire Number dialog.
Right-click on a branch that is to have different properties (Branch B) and select Duplicate. This will make the wire number appear at that branch. This step is required to allow the branch to have different properties than Branch A. Changing the properties of Branch B without first duplicating the wire number will result in the properties of all the branches in the potential also being changed.
Right-click on Branch B and select Edit Wire Number. Change the properties as desired for Branch B. Apply properties by should be set to "Branch".
