Parts database changes not reflected in project

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation
      Version(s): through 08.11.13.140
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Component Management
      Subarea: Parts Database

    Problem Description

Why are the changes I made to the parts database not appearing in my project?  Old, incorrect, or missing part number related information is seen in reports, on Insert Symbol By Device ID, Run Graphical Plan, or elsewhere in the project.

    Reason

When a part number is assigned to a device in a project, the record for that part number is copied from the parts database to the project database and linked to that project. The same part number will have a unique record in the project database for each project in which it is used.

When a part number record is modified in the parts database, the part number information is not automatically updated in the project database by default. This is intentional behavior - it preserves the part number information in a project so the information in completed projects appears as designed.

    Steps to Resolve

To update a project with changes made to the parts database:

    1. Open a page of the project.
    2. Open the Parts Database Manager.
    3. Click the Show Differences button on the resulting dialog.  It is in the upper right side of the dialog.
    4. Select the part numbers to be updated on the Show Differences dialog
    5. Click the Update button.
    6. Close the Show Differences dialog.

Items that are not dynamically updated by the software, such as reports (including Text On Drawing) and graphical plans, will need to be deleted and generated again.

Introduced in promis.e V8i SELECTseries 5 (08.11.10.xx), there is a setting to control what happens after changing a part number record using Parts Database Manager.  Select Options > System Options > Update Part Number to choose one of the following options:

    • Update only the parts database (default)
    • Update the parts database and the active project
    • Update the parts database and all projects
