Family modifications not reflected in project

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation
      Version(s): through 08.11.13.140
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Component Management
      Subarea: Family Creation

    Problem Description

Why are the changes I made to a family not appearing in my project?  The old or wrong definition of the family seems to persist.

    Explanation

By design, changes to family definitions in catalogs do not automatically affect the family definitions in projects. After making changes to a family that has already been used in a project, update the family definition in the project.

    Steps to Resolve

    1. Open a page in the affected project.

    2. Select Update Family.

    3. Click the Get Family List button.

    4. Select the family to update in the Family drop-down list.

    5. Click the Compare Families button to view the differences between the family in the catalog and the family in the project.

    6. Click OK to update the family in the project.

Another possible cause of the "wrong" family definition being used is that the family name exists more than one catalog listed in the Catalog Paths area of the Setup dialog or it also exists in a "ProjectCatalog" subfolder of the project's folder.  The software will use the definition it finds first, and the search hierarchy is the ProjectCatalog (if present) followed by the Catalog Paths in the order they are listed.  In this case, remove the extra family definitions from the other catalogs, or change the order of Catalog Paths.
