How to add Parts Data from MDB file data to existing Parts Database MDB file - OpenUtilities Substation

      Product(s): OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition
      Version(s):  10.00.XX.XX to 10.09.XX.XX
      Environment:  NA
      Area:  Component Management
      Subarea:  Parts Database

    Background:

Users sometimes may need to copy Parts Database records from an MDB file to the existing Parts Database which is being used with OpenUtilities Substation. This is usually needed if you are trying to use Part Records from a new Catalogs.

    Steps to Accomplish

Note: The below steps require MS Office Access, hence check if you have it installed on your machine before proceeding.

    1. Create a copy of the already existing parts database that is currently being used by Substation and into which the new Part Number records need to be added.  And open the Table Associated with part Number records in both the MDB files.

    2. Create a copy of the already existing parts database that is currently being used by Substation and into which the new Part Number records need to be added.  And open the Table Associated with part Number records in both the MDB files.

    3. Then make sure that all the Columns are the same for both the MDB files and are in the same sequence. This needs to be checked correctly for each column in both the MDB files so that the data maintained with the same information. If there is any difference the column needs to be added accordingly in both the MDB files.

    4. Once the Columns are maintained, the next is to copy the data fields from the Source MDB file to Target MDB by selecting all the details as required. Make sure that the Column header is not selected.

    5. After the part details have been copied open the Target MDB file and past the parts data below the existing parts data.

    6. Now copy the MDB file where the Parts Data is copied and replace it with the Parts Database MDB file currently being used by Substation as referred to in step 1.

Note: Before copying MDB file, if the existing file is currently being used by Substation then close Substation before making the changes.

    Alternative Steps

Alternatively, the user can also use SQL Management Studio (SSMS) to copy the data from Source MDB to Target MDB. The user can refer to the below link for the details on the same.
