Background:

This document can be referred to for steps on how to import files for creating a Managed WorkSpace for Substation for ProjectWise (PW) Integration along with Default Startup Project.

Requirements

Managed configurations are supported in ProjectWise CONNECT Edition 10.00.02.265 and later. For details on specific version compatibility with OpenUtilities Substation refer to the below Wiki Link.

communities.bentley.com/.../compatibility-chart-openutilities-substation-connect

This setup assumes a fully operational ProjectWise server and datasource, and that you have already installed:
• ProjectWise Design Integration Server
• ProjectWise Administrator
• OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT
• ProjectWise Explorer with the iDesktop Integration > Bentley Application Base Integration installation option turned on.

Steps to Accomplish

Step 1: Import Configuration Data Files into ProjectWise

A managed configuration involves importing folders, subfolders, and files from the OpenUtilities Substation Configuration folder. This folder is installed during the installation of OpenUtilities Substation; located in C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition.

1. Open ProjectWise Administrator and log in to your datasource.

2. Expand the WorkSpaces datasource node, then right-click Managed and select Import Managed Configuration.

3. When the Managed Configuration Import Wizard opens, click Next.

4. On the Choose Desired Action page, select Import Data to ProjectWise, from File System and click Next.

5. On the Import and Validate ProjectWise Folder Structure and Documents page, do the following:

a. In the Local File System list, navigate to and select the local Configuration folder you want to import by default the path is C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition\Configuration.

b. In the ProjectWise list, create a new folder or select an existing folder. This is the folder in ProjectWise that the local WorkSpace will be imported into and managed from. If selecting an existing folder, it is recommended that the selected folder does not contain exiting files or folders. In this example, a new folder called “Substation CONNECT Managed” is created.
To create the folder, right-click somewhere in the folder structure and select New Folder.

c. Click the Map button, then click Validate.

Note: The wizard compares the contents of the local folder with the contents of the selected ProjectWise folder. Because the ProjectWise folder we are importing to is empty, there will not be any files to compare, and so this process should be quick. In the future, you can use these same steps to update the ProjectWise folder with any local changes. It will compare the two directories and identify whether files exist or not. It does not compare the contents of the file, only whether the files exist or not.

6. In the Validation of File System Structure against ProjectWise, Deselect Datasets folder, Deselect Organization folder, and Deselect the ConfigurationSetup.cfg & WorkspaceSetup.cfg.

Attention: While it is acceptable to import this folder, it may be unnecessary. Reducing the number of files being exchanged between the ProjectWise datasource and local machine translates into shorter download times and greater performance for your users. If this folder, its subfolders, and or files have been customized; you will want to select it for import.

7. Under the WorkSpace folder tree select / deselect desired WorkSpace folder for importing along with their corresponding "WorkSpace.cfg" file for example Substation ANSI-IEEE Example.cfg and then select Resolve.

8. When the importing is finished, click Next and then click Close to exit the Wizard.

Step 2: Create Default Startup Project

OpenUtilities Substation requires a Default Startup Project when integrated with ProjectWise and is used to enable the Managed Configuration when OpenUtilities Substation is launched from Desktop.

1. Open ProjectWise Explorer and log in to your datasource.

2. Create a New Work Area under the Documents folder by right-clicking on Documents and selecting New Work Area.

3. Click Next, select None for Template, and click Next.

4. Specify the name for Work Area as Default Project, or can specify a custom name as per requirement for example "Substation Default ANSI". Click Finish to complete and close the Wizard.

Attention: Multiple Default Startup Projects are required when the managed configuration contains more than one workspace. Each managed workspace requires a separate Default Startup Project.

7. Using ProjectWise Explorer, copy Ecad.dgn into each Default Startup Project created in the prior step. Ecad.dgn can be found in for example in .......Documents\Substation CONNECT Managed\WorkSpaces\Substation ANSI-IEEE Example\Standards\Substation\Templates\Page\

-

8. Create Substation_Workspace.cfg file which will be used by Substation to associate the project with a WorkSpace & WorkSet.

a. On the local file system, create a new text file named Substation_Workspace.cfg.

b. Open this file using Windows NotePad.

c. Add and Set the following variables and set their values.
_USTN_WORKSPACENAME = Workspace name that will be associated with the default startup project.
_USTN_WORKSETNAME = Workset name that will be associated with the default startup project.

Example

You can also download the above example file from the below download link.

communities.bentley.com/.../275481

d. Import Substation_Workspace.cfg file into the appropriate Default Startup Project folder.

If selected a custom name Step 4 above follow the below Wiki Link for steps to change the name of the Default Project folder. After following the steps from the below Wiki Link the file can be used to Depoy the configuration on all the Client Machine.

communities.bentley.com/.../warning-ecad-dgn-doesn-t-exist-in-defaultproject-in-projectwise

Step 3: Designate Default Work Area for OpenUtilities Substation Projects

OpenUtilities Substation ELEC_DEFAULT_PROJECT_DIR variable defines the Default Project Directory for OpenUtilities Substation Projects. This variable is defined in the Substation.cfg at the Workspace or Workset configuration level and imported during Step 1 - Import Configuration Data Files into ProjectWise. In order for the managed configuration to properly work, the path specified for this variable must exist within the ProjectWise Datasource.

1. Upgrade a ProjectWise Folder to a Work Area or Create a new Work Area. Select the Address of the folder and copy it.

2. Open Substation.cfg with NotePad. Set the ELEC_DEFAULT_PROJECT_DIR variable in Substation.CFG equal to the ProjectWise path to the designated Default Work Area (from prior step).

For example

3. Save the file, Close NotePad, and select Check In when prompted.

Step 4: Upgrade WorkSpace and WorkSet Folders to Work Areas

After importing the configuration into ProjectWise, you need to upgrade the individual WorkSpace and WorkSet folders to ProjectWise projects in ProjectWise Explorer.
Example showing Workspace Substation ANSI-IEEE Example and Workset Substation_Sample_ANSI-IEEE folder upgraded to Work Areas.

Attention: If multiple workspaces are part of the managed configuration, upgrade each Workspace and Workset folder to Work Areas.

1. Select the WorkSpace folder and Right-Click, and select Update to Work Area.

2. Click Next in Work Area Creation Wizard, and click Finish.

3. Repeat the above Steps 1 & 2 for all the WorkSets inside the WorkSpace that are going to be part of the Managed WorkSpace.
