    Error due to Microsoft Access Database Engine

    Background

    In OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition, you might get the below error message if the workspace is in a network location or in ProjectWise and you have Microsoft Office 2016.

    Result

    Below error message occurs at the launching of the software.

     Error:-


     

    Microsoft .NET Framework 

    Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue 

    Object reference not set to an instance of an object 

      

    ECT.ECAD.API.ProjectWise.Utility.get_IsMCMLoaded 

    Electrical.UI.General.ExternalLunchProgress.

    Error:-

    OpenUtilities Substation Problem Notification

    OpenUtilities Substation has detected a problem and logged

    it to

    C:\Users\Bentley\AppData\tocal\Temp\Bentley\Substation\10.0

    .O\exception.log

    Use Abort to exit OpenUtilities Substation (recommended)

    Use Retry to continue using OpenUtilities Substation

    Use Ignore to continue using OpenUtilities Substation, and suppress future problem notifications

    How to check windows updates?

    1. Click on “Check for updates”




    2. Click on “View update history”

    3. Check Update History.

    Resolution

    There are a number of solutions, if this is the first time seeing this error, you can

    1. Substation supports both Access Database Engine 2016 x64 16.0.5044.1000 and 16.0.4519.1000. Substation CE release is with Access Database Engine 2016 x64 16.0.5044.1000.

    Uninstall the existing Microsoft Access Database engine 2016 version and reinstall.

    If the error is consistent, then go for a second resolution.

    2.  Users need to install security 4484211 which will fix this issue.

    Databases on network share can't be accessed by multiple users in Office 2016 ( KB44844211)

    Security Update for Microsoft Office (KB5002099) restricts the network share of Microsoft Access databases accessed by multiple users simultaneously in Microsoft Office 2016.
