Background:
There might be requirement for the users where they need to create Custom Part Number and then associate with symbol. The user can refer to this Wiki Article for steps to be followed for the same.
Steps to Accomplish
1. Refer to the below Wiki Link on how to create a Custom Part Number.

2. Insert the Symbol on the Project Page if not already placed using Insert Substation Object >> Symbol By Name >> select the symbol >> Place Symbol.
3. Next check the details of the Custom Part Number like Installation, Location and Device Id and make the changes according to the requirement that needs to be displayed on the symbol.
4. Now update the same details of Installation + Location + Device Tag in the Device Properties of the symbol placed by Right Click on symbol >> Device Properties.
5. To confirm that both the symbols are linked checked the Device Properties of the symbol for the Part Number if its same as Custom Part Number. Else in BOM Manager check the Flag indicating that record is not associated to a symbol is absent.
