    Restore Platform Defaults - Promis.e

      Product(s): Promis.e V8i
      Version(s): through 08.11.13.96
      Environment: N/A
      Area: PowerPlatform Support
      Subarea: N/A

    Problem Description

Certain dialogs or toolboxes will not open or are missing in Promis.e V8i Standalone / MicroStation / PowerDraft. In past cases, affected items included Print Organizer, Tasks, or the File/Edit/Element... menu bar.

In one case, the main application window itself would not appear, only the Welcome dialog and Project Manager would appear even after opening a page.

In one case, the Draw Wire tool would always start wires at the origin (0,0) of the page while Place Line and Insert Symbol worked correctly.

    Reason

The items could be off screen, or there could be corruption in user preference files.

    Steps to Resolve

    Promis.e V8i SELECTseries 5 and higher

    1. From the Windows "Start" button, select or search for "Run".

    2. On the Run dialog, click Browse.

    3. Find and select promise.exe in the Program Folder, then click the Open button.

    4. Insert a space after the ...\promise.exe" and type -restoredefaults
      It should look something like:

      "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Promise V8i\Promise\Promise.exe" -restoredefaults

NOTE: the full path to Promise.exe should be in quotes. Place a space AFTER the quotes, then type -restoredefaults.

    5. Click the OK button.

    6. A Text Window will open displaying the details of the operation.

      Deleted C:\Users\[current user folder]\AppData\Local\Bentley\promise
      Deleted C:\Users\[current user folder]\AppData\Roaming\Bentley\promise
      Deleted C:\ProgramData\Bentley\promise
      Deleted C:\Users\[current user folder]\AppData\Local\Temp\Bentley\promise

Defaults restored. Press any key to Exit.
