Error - Could not find SQL Server instance named BENTLEYECAD

      Product(s): Promis.e, Bentley Substation,
      Version(s): through 08.11.13.140
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Database Platform Support
      Subarea: N/A

    Error or Warning Message

The software could not find a SQL Server instance named "BENTLEYECAD" and will not automatically create the project database.  You must create a project database and configure the database connection manually.

    Explanation

At first startup after installation, and continuing at each startup until an attempt at configuration is made, the software checks for a local instance of SQL Server named BENTLEYECAD.  If it is found, the software attempts to create a local project database automatically.  If it is not found, this message appears.

    How to Avoid

If the software is intended to be connected to a project database on the network

    • If the database already exists, configure the Project Database tab of Setup to connect to the desired database.

    • If the database exists but the software cannot connect to it, see Troubleshooting Project Database Connection Problems.

    • If SQL Server has not been installed on the network machine, see Installing SQL Server.

    • If SQL Server is installed on the network machine but the database has not been created, see the "Create the Database Method 2:  Executing a Script" section of the Creating and Updating the Project Database article.

If the software is intended to be connected to a project database on the local workstation

    • If SQL Server has not been installed, see Installing SQL Server.

    • If SQL Server is already installed for use with other software, see Installing SQL Server and install a BENTLEYECAD instance.

    • If SQL Server has been installed with a different instance name such as the default SQLEXPRESS but intended for use with the Bentley software, see "Create the Database Method 1: Project Database Utility" section of Creating and Updating the Project Database.  Be sure to specify the correct instance name in the Utility.

    • If SQL Server was installed via the Bentley software's main installation screen or otherwise has an instance name of BENTLEYECAD, see Troubleshooting Project Database Connection Problems.
