Migrate a catalog from promis.e V8i Standalone to promis.e for AutoCAD

      Product(s): promis.e V8i
      Version(s): through 08.11.11.xx
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Migration
      Subarea: N/A

How to migrate a catalog in promis.e V8i Standalone format to promis.e V8i for AutoCAD format?

    Background

This process may work best when migrating to the same or subsequent promis.e version.

In this document, "promis.e V8i Standalone" refers to promis.e with an integrated MicroStation drafting platform (Standalone) and promis.e running on MicroStation/PowerDraft.

    Steps to Accomplish

    Part 1 - in promis.e V8i Standalone

    1. Open Catalog Manager.

    2. Use the Export Catalog tool to export the catalog.  Ensure the For AutoCAD option is enabled. This will create an archive file with a .CTLG file extension.

    Part 2 - in promis.e V8i for AutoCAD

    1. Open the Migration Wizard

    2. Choose the From promis-e(MicroStation) to promis-e(ACAD) option, click OK.

    3. On the Import Catalogs tab of the Migration Wizard, specify the "Standard of the catalog to convert".

    4. Select the CTLG file created in Part 1 above for "Source catalog (MicroStation)".

    5. Choose the Export to backup catalog file option, browse [...] to a destination path, and specify a file name.

    6. Click the Convert button.

    7. Close the Migration Wizard when the conversion is complete.

    8. Use the Import Catalog tool in Catalog Manager to import the CTLG file created in step 5.

    Problems associated with incorrect workflows

    Symptoms:

Error messages occur while importing the CTLG file in Catalog Manager in promis.e V8i for AutoCAD:

    Internal Error
    unrecognized dwg format.

When attempting to insert the symbols from the catalog onto a page:

    Incorrect Symbol
The symbol format is incorrect, please refresh the catalog and try again.

There is a file with a .dwg__1 extension for each DWG file in the Symbols folder for the imported catalog.

Explanation:  The catalog was not migrated (steps 1 - 7 in Part 2) and the CTLG file from Part 1 is directly imported into Catalog Manager in promis.e V8i for AutoCAD.

Solution: Remove the catalog path for the imported catalog and perform all the steps in Part 2 above.

    Symptoms:

No symbols appear in the catalog in Catalog Manager or Insert Symbol for the imported catalog in promis.e V8i for AutoCAD.

The Symbols folder for the imported catalog contains DGN files instead of DWG files for each symbol.

Explanation: This occurs if the For AutoCAD check box is not set in step 2 of Part 1.

Solution: Remove the catalog path for the imported catalog and perform all the steps above, ensuring the For AutoCAD check box is set in step 2 of Part 1.
