  • RE: [SS10/Connect/ORD] shifting from network/VPN to Sharepoint/OneDrive?

    Marc Thomas
    Marc Thomas
I recently saw SharePoint being used in a very well organized way to store project data by synchronising it locally (behaviour similar to OneDrive, they have many similarities). On the whole it works very well except when multi user access is required…

I tentatively suggest the following: use OneDrive for Business share a configuration to all users as read-only, retaining edit permission only for the admins who maintain it (no exceptions!). ensure the users have the OneDrive 'Always keep on…

Greetings, I will be assisting a startup design firm nearby to get up and running with MicroStaion/ProjectWise (PW) - most likely only one license of each. Their filestorage is all in Microsoft OneDrive, a component of Sharepoint. For any projects…

BTW, I already remove all our client's setting of seed and prefname base. I've been doing this for awhile, i've got a several 10.9 workspaces where i've done this. Just instead of putting them on OneDrive I use the ORD defaults for everything.

Hi Rik, Yes, you can simply copy configuration.xml into the prefs on A and B. To relocate preferences including the UCF you first need to modify the behaviour of _USTN_USERCFG, I have covered this in CONNECT Edition - Configuration Tips : User Preferences…

We set the variable MS_PERSONALDGNLIB in our configuration. I'm currently testing for myself to keep this file in my OneDrive folder and it seems to work for me. I also set MS_PERSONALDGNLIBSEED. Still in testing but intent is to allow users to have…

Hi Charles, You can include an If/Else statement in the [General] section of ConfigurationSetup.cfg. You may also be able to put statements currently in your WorkSpaceSetup.cfg in there too. Once _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION has set _USTN_CONFIGURATION…

Hi Mary, We have given up on trying to back these types of files up. The thought is that people can get them from back up if they go corrupt, but when was it backed up and when did it go corrupt? Easier to just rebuild them from the seed starting point…

Hi Mary, From your description above it sounds like having one WorkSet per client would be a good way to go for the time being. The file branding would only arise if someone opened a file from a different WorkSpace, which seems less likely to occur…

In WorkSpaceSetup.cfg I define all variables that pertain the the overall setup of the configuration. In Organization I put actual settings/files that are used with the product(s) themselves. So our WorkSpaceSetup.cfg has: _USTN_ORGANIZATION _USTN_WORKSPACES_ROOT…

I'll be following the Microsoft OneDrive conversation closely as it may yield some potential answers, but I wanted to ask a parallel question here without muddying the waters there. DOTs will typically provide localization via custom workspaces with…
