  • screenwall at roof level

I have a relatively tall screen wall at the roof level - about 20ft tall - around a mechanical area. The structure is kicked back into the roof diaphragm. What is the best way to model it so that RAM Frame accounts for its wind surface area? The footprint…
  • how to get the loadings details in report????

I have got my report, but there is no loading details like dead load, Wind loads and all... In report settings i have added Loadings, but its not showing.... Wt to do???? i want to see other load details. How to get that details?
  • Unbraced Length of Lateral Columns in RAM SS

How shall we assign the unbraced length of lateral columns in a building with a mix of lateral and gravity columns supporting a flat slab? The building does have shear walls as well as a part of MWFRS. I know for gravity columns, it will be safe to…
  • RAM Frame crashes during analysis (wind load crash - seismic works)

I have a pesky model that I've been working through. Originally having issues with a sloped semi-rigid diaphragm at the high roof, I eventually changed it to be flat in order to get a first pass on the model. Dead, Live, Roof, Seismic, COR, Eigen Solution…
  • RE: Wind load in direction of skewed grid

For Ram Structural System, you can specify any plan angle when using Wind (or Seismic) User Defined Story Forces, but the code-specific, program generated loads are based on the global axes. For more see: If you are using a flexible diaphragm type, then…
  • Rotate RAM Frame Generated Wind Loads or rotate entire RAM SS model?

Is it possible to set my RAM Frame wind loads to be generated at an angle? If not, what would be the best way to go about rotating my model? Thanks!
  • RE: Difference between wall with openings and individual walls

The difference is in the total applied load force wind Y model 1 127 k model 2 343 k As reported in the Loads and Applied force report (and also in the analysis log total reactions). The reason for the difference is…
  • RE: Wind Load and Lateral Earth Pressure on Building with Basement

If you set the Ram Frame - Criteria - Ground level up one story from the base it will reduce the wind exposure. For more in this see: communities.bentley.com/.../18422.ram-frame-criteria-ground-level
  • RAM Wind Loads

Working on a 55' wide X 80' long X 33' tall building with perimeter curtain walls. Does the wind load generator assume exterior surfaces or are the wind loads applied only to the beams and column areas? i don't see a setting to differentiate between enclosed…
  • RE: RAM Wind Loads

Actually we ignore the internal pressure altogether, because we assume the structure is a closed box and the internal pressures will always cancel each other out when it comes to the total lateral force for the MWFRS.
  • RE: wind loads on walls with varying heights in ram

Regretfully our wind load application is fairly simplistic. The slope of the roof is not fully accounted for and the parapet is only a constant dimension per story. The RAM Frame - Wind Loads FAQ clarifies these points. Ultimately, using User Defined…
  • RE: Wind Pressure using Flexible diaphragm vs. Flexible-Psuedo Diaphragm Analysis

You get a different frequency values and that affects the Gust factor which, in turn, affects the total pressure. You may want to manually specify the frequency for the wind load in advance when using flexible diaphragm types Check our post on Pseudo…
  • RE: RAM Frame Story Shear with Multiple Diaphragms

When the diaphragm is pseudo-flexible, the location of the graphic for the diaphragm shear is largely irrelevant. This wiki indicates that it's somewhere near the geometric center. If you look at the building story shear report, you'll see 4 lines in…
  • RE: RAM Frame ASCE 7-10 Wind

ASCE 7-10 uses an ultimate wind load type, but the program is asking the user to input basic wind speed, V,see Section 26.5.
  • RAM Frame - Wind Loads [FAQ]

Product(s): RAM Structural System Version(s): Any Area: Analysis How is the wind typically applied to the model? The slab edge determines the exposure (Ram Frame – Loads – Exposure) and we assume some kind of vertically…
  • RAM Structural Wind

Designing a Warehouse with intermediate wind girts around the perimeter, and intermediate wind columns. Do these wind girts have to be created on its own level, do they need to be considered as part of a frame system? I guess whats the best way to model…
  • RE: RAM SS - Windward and Leeward sides got swapped

I ran a test model using your wind load parameters and version 14.06.01. My model has a rectangular plan, much like yours, and semi-rigid diaphragms, but in my case for Wind in the X direction, the left windward edge loads are significantly higher than…
