  update on this, i have found that using the GetParentPathElement and then Alignment.CreateFromElement does work to then use with StationingFormatter.FormatStation to get actual stations (tested it with station equations applied to confirm)

  You will probably not have interfaces in your water, in which case it doesn't really matter what you fill in since it won't be used anyway. But you have to fill in something, that is the only requirement.
