• RE: Runoff Over Pond Surface

Nishadi, SewerGEMS will not automatically have the rain fall over the pond area. So, indeed, if you have a pond with a significant top surface area and need to account for rain that falls directly into the pond, lay out a separate catchment overlapping…

You can Turn off the elevation field in a profile in Profile Series Options. Select the Data Tab at the top of the profile. Pick Copy. Paste into Excel and view profile there. Repeat for each profile you want.

    Sushma Choure
Hello Nishadi, Pipes are assumed to be dry at start of simulation so you see zero flow at 0.00 hrs, the initially dry pipe fills with water at the start of the simulation. However as per storm data there is receding non-zero rainfall at 24.00 hrs…

To illustrate the drop that Sushma is referring to (which is then reflected in the runoff hydrograph):

Nishadi, try graphing the HGL at that element to see if there is a momentary "spike". Even though the continuity error is low, such instability could still occur and you may need to further refine the calculation options or try the Explicit (SWMM) solver…

Hello Nishadi, What solver are you using? If may be worth trying to use the troubleshooting steps for the Implicit or Explicit solver to see if there are any improvements. Otherwise, you can graph the results or check the cross section properties…

    Jesse Dringoli
A distinction to be made is flooding vs. overflowing. As the article explains, the side walls of a channel are extended up so that flow is not lost (no overflow), but the program will still warn you that the channel is overtopped/flooded, so that you…

Hello Nishadi, If a channel is overtopping it will will be evident in the profile at certain time steps. You can scroll out to a time step where the hydraulic grade is above the ground elevation. As noted in the link, there will likely be overtopping…

What SCS Unit hydrograph is used in model? Default curvilinear or other ? Mostly if is only Storm water flow and not direct inflows it will try to match the storm event pattern. What is start type used in calculation options? Warm start of transition…

The Virtual Flow Depth calculation option may need to be adjusted in this case. See: Purpose of the Virtual Flow Depth Calculation Option If this does not help, you may need to adjust other advanced calculation options, ignore the small "ghost flow…

Hi Nishadi, Each solver has its own strengths and weaknesses. You can certainly use the Explicit solver if it is working better in your model and you understand the assumptions, limitations and differences between the other solvers. See: Differences…

Hello Nishadi, If you want to model lets say direct flow into pond coming from stream which is not affected by weather then you can draw a dummy catchment as you are doing already, with user defined hydrograph as runoff method, see below article for…

What does this headloss represent? If there is a weir for example, you can use a start control structure on the downstream channel to model the head drop across the weir. You can also use this to model a user defined rating table for the head "loss".…

Thanks for sending the model. Some of those pipes have a higher capacity because the number of barrels is set to 2 . Add the column "Number of Barrels" to your conduit table and you will see that the "correct" pipe has one barrel and the others have two…
