• RE: Modelling eccentricity of columns with cantilever beams in RAM SS

You can make the beams and columns lateral and then assign the desired fixity and establish the column unbalanced moment based on the RAM Frame finite element analysis. Otherwise I guess you could run a variation of the model without the cantilevers…

Deflections are based on unfactored loads. See: https://communities.bentley.com/products/ram-staad/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/14515/ram-ss-steel-beam-deflection-and-camber

If you are using the Soil Bearing Rule Set Design plot then no, that is an envelope of load combinations (and patterns). You can plot the bearing pressure for individual load combinations, however.

Here are some notes from the Ram Steel Column manual: Live load reduction factors are a function of the area associated with the loads acting on a member. In calculating the reduction for a given load, the program only uses the area on the member associated…

An area spring has an orientation. The default is 0 degrees, so the R axis runs left to right and the S axis runs north to south on screen. The spring then has an R and S axis resistance that relate to the area spring local axis. Most soils are linear…

We recommend that you report or screen capture the expanded load combos. Save the file as a backup. Then regenerate the load combos (Criteria menu). Finally compare the program defaults to yours. The differences cause the warning. If you still like your…

I have another user with a similar issue (SR 7000813775). In his case the 3D view is truncated as if by a clipping plane. I just asked him to try updating his graphics adapter driver and/or overriding the hardware acceleration using the environment variables…

  • RE: Difference between zero tension and linear analysis type in RAM Concept

    Seth Guthrie
    Seth Guthrie
If you have area springs then you need to run an iterative no-tension analysis to insure all the springs are in compression. Otherwise, with a linear analysis, some of the springs could be in compression while others are in tension.

Yes, if your connections act eccentrically to the column centroid, then you should consider skip loading. See also: communities.bentley.com/.../ram-steel-columns-faq
