Is it possible to limit the characters in the field of User Data Extension?

Greetings everybody! I want to store the headloss gradient to the User Data Extensions (UDX). The storage unit for this is ft/ft. What "Units" should I use to store my headloss gradient results? UDX does not allow me <none> in the Units fields…
