I also get the same issue when trying to create a new dataset from a Trimble DC file in a completely different directory on a different drive in a new DGN file and a new project.

the existing surface profile is (in some places) beyond the range of the profile cell.
I'd suggest that when you try and select the second vertical component - it is also outside the Profile Cell extent and it will not be found…

The cell is created based on the Chain. The Chain has no vertical information. The surfaces are added after the cell is created - which is why we cannot auto populate the vertical details.

The issue was caused by having empty fields in the Linking Codes, they need to be populated even if the codes are not been utilised. See the attached screen shot.
