I also get the same issue when trying to create a new dataset from a Trimble DC file in a completely different directory on a different drive in a new DGN file and a new project.

the existing surface profile is (in some places) beyond the range of the profile cell.
I'd suggest that when you try and select the second vertical component - it is also outside the Profile Cell extent and it will not be found…

The cell is created based on the Chain. The Chain has no vertical information. The surfaces are added after the cell is created - which is why we cannot auto populate the vertical details.

you may have misunderstood what I was refering to whne I said "range". I was refering to the vertical extents of the profile cell.
The DGN you sent had the majority of the existing surface profile above the top of the profile cell…

There is a key in to save a V8i GSF file as a XM version GSF file.
The key in requires that Modeler is open and the the project you want saved to XM format is open/active.
The key in command is:
