Can anyone enlighten me about this failure? It say failure since L/R Exceeds But removing this member, make the whole framing passed? How in the world can that member affect the whole frame? And why is the first one failed in L/R? Thanks…

Hello, I have an ordinary frame which has some cross bracings in it. The unit is actually to support small HVAC equipment. I have created a basic model to see if my angles will be able to take that load or not. However, I am designing cross bracings…

How shall we assign the unbraced length of lateral columns in a building with a mix of lateral and gravity columns supporting a flat slab? The building does have shear walls as well as a part of MWFRS. I know for gravity columns, it will be safe to…

What if for a member both the parameters - Ky and Ly are used? For ex., A member is having length L = 0.80 m Design parameters assigned to this member are: KY = 0.85 and LY = 1.4 what will be the effective length used for the calculation? I…

For analysis, the member stiffness is calculated using the member length between the incident nodes. Effective lengths are used in the design phase for calculation of member strengths.

Hi, 1. In the 3D model columns are tied by beams on both X and Z directions, but at different level. So, I have to define the different length and different length factor for both Y and Z directions of the column. Say, Height & effective length…

  • StaadPro - Effective Length For Compression Chords In Long Trusses

I have designed a 80m box truss with StaadPro. For the top chords that are in compression, do I need to specify their Lz to be equal to 80m? If I do that, the top chords will fail terribly due to slenderness. Is it a valid assumption to default the Lz…
