Problem

Exception with code 0xc0000005

Bad Memory Access / Access Violation Error

Solution

Possible reasons (for MS 2004):

-A Corrupt User Preference file (UPF)

Replace the UPF (rename the current one or moving it out of the
folder).
Restore MicroStation to Factory defaults

-"Compress on Exit" Preference checked on

Menu item: CWorkspace > Preferences > Operation: "Uncheck "Compress File on Exit" (workaround: manually compress).

Other things to try (all versions):

-Bad Resource File

Remove RSC files from the MS_SYMBRSRC + MS_FONTPATH and replace one at a time until
exception crash returns. (Menu item: Workspace > Configuration > Symbology)

-File Corruption

Detach ALL references and reattach them, to narrow it down.

-Network Related

Copy files locally and test again.

-Workspace Related

-Create a new workspace and test again. (e.g. create a new user and / or a new Project via MicroStation Manager)
-Open the file in the default workspace.

Computer Related

Try to recreate the exception on another machine.

3rd Party Applications

Try to recreate without 3rd Application
If not reproducible without 3rd Party Application, contact the author of
the application.

Corrupt Windows Profile (See P/S # 25600)

Rebuild/Create New windows user Profile.

When all else fails, as a last resort, Uninstall/Reinstall may correct
this.
