Problem

The "Available" number shown for a product in the License Management tool is zero, yet the license does not show up as being checked out (nothing listed at the bottom of the checkout tab of the license management tool).

How can I manually check in a license?

Solution - Subscription Entitlement Services Licensing (CONNECT Licensing)

The following information pertains to CONNECT Licensing-enabled versions: 10.02.XX.XX and greater

If a license is "stuck" as being Reserved (checked out), first confirm that the license wasn't actually Reserved on another computer. The license will need to be released (checked in) on the computer it was reserved on, using the "Reserve License" tab of the Bentley Licensing Tool. See more here.

If the license is not found to be reserved on another computer and you want to manually release it, this can be done by the license administrator from Entitlement Management.

Solution - SELECTserver Licensing

The following information pertains to versions BELOW 10.02.XX.XX, which use older, SELECTserver licensing:

If the license is "stuck" as checked out, first confirm that the license wasn't actually checked out on another computer. The license will need to be checked in on the computer it was checked out on, by selecting it at the bottom of the license management tool and clicking the "check in" button.

If your company has a SELECT or ELS subscription, your designated Site Administrator (typically in your IT/Helpdesk department) can log into the SELECTserver administration page, click "checked out licenses" and view the computer name that it's checked out onto, as well as the email address and other information from when it was checked out. The license can also be manually checked in from this page, in the event that it was somehow "stuck" (for example of the computer was formatted/discarded without checking the license back in). See more here: Viewing And Checking In Licenses Using The Site Administration Page

If your company does not have a SELECT subscription, please contact technical support for assistance with manually checking in the license. For the future, the proper way to check in a license is documented here: Client Check In and Out Instructions for XM and Higher
